For safety reason, MCSTs, homeowners and occupants should make window inspection a priority by following three steps: check, clean and change.
Inspection of windows should be conducted once every half-yearly. For easy compliance, inspections may be carried out about 6 June (6.6) and 12 December (12.12) of each calendar year. This is now the time due for the 1st inspection of the calendar year.
Section 9(1) of BMSMA states that if a window falls due to lack of maintenance, owners can face a fine of up to $10,000 and/or jail term of up to one year or both.
Only approved window contractors and trained window installers should be employed to retrofit casement windows. Stainless steel rivets of type 304 complying with BS EN 10088 or equivalent should be used. Failure to do so may also result in committing an offence.
