Authority looking at BMSMA for electric charging units in strata developments

Yes,we need law to impose a compulsory requirement for existing  strata developments especially condos, to install electric charging units in the developments for electric vehicles. Under current legislation of the Building Maintenance and Strata Management Act, an MCST is required to obtain a Special Resolution from the general body for outright installation (CAPEX), or for leasing the car park (common area) to an operator  for up to 3 years (OPEX) to provide the charging units. If leasing is more than 3 years, a 90% Resolution is required. Many MCSTs have failed to secure the requiste resolutions at their general meetings for installing electric charging units.

The proposed legislation for compulsory installation and to lower the threhold for the type of resolution required, is good news for the strata managing agents and councils of strata developments.
