Repairs for a condo were done, cleaning services were visible and the management team provided reports.
But no one questioned them.
Then, a fire broke out at the basement.
The sprinkler system (a network of pipes installed at the ceiling to release water automatically to extinguish a fire) did work.
But the fire alarm failed to work.
Many occupants were not aware of the fire until the fire engine arrived.
Hadn’t there been regular maintenance?
An audit was conducted.
The findings were alarming.
The fire alarm had been placed on a “silence” mode (isolation) during scheduled maintenance.
It has not been tested and the sound of the alarm has not been heard for a long time.
Worst, maintenance checks were sometimes skipped.
When questioned, the management team had no answer. In the end, they were replaced.
Are you sure your condo’s maintenance is being handled properly?
Don’t wait for an accident to happen. Demand audits, review reports and protect your condo.
Because when maintenance fails, everyone pays the price.
